Summer Recreation Program & Events
2023 Summer Recreation Program begins Monday June 26th and goes through August 4th. Supervised/ organized programs will be located this year at Alcoa Field, Nightingale Elementary, Madison Elementary, and Jefferson Elementary. Participants can be dropped off at any of the 4 locations to start the day or may join as at any other location if they check in with a playground leader. Pick-up at these locations will start at 9am and if a pick-up is occurring that day at a location, it will only be once a day. Games and Activities will be offered Monday through Friday from 9-11:30 am. An Arts and Crafts instructor will be on hand at the locations to offer a variety of arts and crafts projects for children of all ages.
Participants will receive a free lunch at the High School courtesy of the Massena Summer Lunch Program. This is scheduled for all days that we do not have a scheduled “All Day Beach Day”. After lunch, the children will be bussed to the Massena Town Beach. On Wednesdays and some designated Mondays (all day beach days), a free lunch will be provided to all children participating in the morning program. Wednesday lunch sponsors include Stewarts, An Italian Affair, Subway, and Sea-Comm Federal Credit Union. All Drinks are generously provided by PEPSI-COLA.
Parents/Guardian can register their children ahead of time by contacting the Massena Recreation Department, sign up online, or the first day their child attends the program. Participants must be 5 years of age to attend the morning program and 7 years old to ride the bus to Massena Town Beach. New this year is that children age 5+ are able to attend the morning program as well as afternoon program at the beach!!
This is a “drop-in” program which allows adults to drop off and pick-up children at any time they wish at the playgrounds and Beach. If the children become unruly, they will be sent home at any time during the program. We are not a babysitting service. This entire program is a FREE program.
Town Beach Bussing– Beach buses will run from June 26th– August 4th picking up swimmers at the High School starting at 11:30 am. The buses will leave Massena Town Beach at approximately 3:30 p.m. daily, having all children back at their playground locations by 3:45pm (depending on bus usage/occupancy). A consent form must be signed by a parent/guardian for each child riding the bus to the beach and/or playground pickup. Playground programs and beach bussing are offered free of charge to the youth of Massena. Participants should have a backpack, swimsuit, sunscreen, towel, water bottle, and possible change of clothes.
it is very important to fill out the planning form so we can send out emails with detailed information as to the schedule for each week. A google calendar is also available and will be updated with changes. Information on the Therapeutic Recreation program will be provided directly to the Special Education Teachers at the Elementary Schools.
