Massena participates in a Single Stream Recycling program -- allowing all recyclable items to be mixed together for collection.  For more information view our 2013 Recycling Flyer.

Recycling Guidelines
  • All recyclable items - paper, plastic, metal and glass - are put in a single bin less than 35 gallons in capacity
  • Break down and flatten cardboard boxes as practical
  • Plastic bags are not recyclable - no string, no trash, no green waste and no plastic bags or plastic wrap of any kind should be mixed with your recyclables
  • Recyclables should be empty and cleaned of all residue
  • Remove and recycle metal caps and lids - it is not necessary to remove labels or metal and plastic rings
  • Special Note: Shredded paper should be placed in a clear plastic bag next to your recycling bin

Sharps should never be placed in your regular garbage or recycling! Please place sharps in a puncture-resistant container, clearly label it "Needles" or "Sharps" and take it to a hospital, clinic or pharmacy.

Steel, Metal Items, White Goods, and Appliances

  • Accepted free of charge
  • A roll off box is located at the transfer station for year-round drop off
All major appliances are accepted with or without freon.

Electronic Waste

  • Accepted free of charge
  • Computer and PC peripherals

  • TV and TV peripherals
A convenient point is located at the transfer station for year-round drop off for electronic waste.

Special Recyclable Items
  • Cell Phones are accepted free of charge
  • Single Use Batteries - Rechargeable or Non-Rechargeable - accepted free of charge
  • Tires (all sizes) - pay-by-weight, price varies by size and type
