Supervisor’s Website Letter, #2 of 2022

Welcome back to view my April quarterly update for our Town of Massena’s Website! It is recognized and appreciated by many town followers that our agendas and committees have their minutes online now. Thank you for letting us know. To bring you up to date on some town projects, the East Massena Water Project will begin tentatively April 11th to replace the waterline that has been problematic for some time. The waterline replacement may not finish until October or later. Tisdel Associates is managing this project for the town. Another project at the airport for Apron Rehabilitation will be managed by C & S Engineers. The town wishes Tim Germano a Happy Retirement after serving the highway department for 28 years. Down the road, no pun intended, we are looking to replace the Town Highway Department Garage; the proposal and plans were completed a few years ago and now we are looking for funding possibilities. Grant writing is so important to aide our town budget and we are active in our search for experienced grant writers. Town board members Debra Willer, Patrick Facteau, Adrian Taraska and I have completed trainings through the Association of Towns and continue to attend webinars in various areas, including: building a structurally balanced budget, planning and zoning, comprehensive planning, purchasing and competitive bidding, funding for public infrastructures, assessor duties, ethics, negotiating contracts to mention a few. Given the local and national impact of Fishing, Fishing Committee members Tom Miller and Adrian Taraska meet with Fishing Tournament Coordinator Don Meissner regularly. Be sure to watch our Explore Massena website coordinated by Jason Hendricks. The Celine Philibert Memorial Cultural Center and Museum is advertising for a new historian and the town thanks Mary Ellen Castleman for her 10 years of service promoting Massena History through her authorship of several books. Board members Deb Willer and Tom Miller are working to prepare a new storage area for museum archives at the St. Lawrence Centre until a storage area can be built on museum grounds. There is still the issue along with residents’ concerns over Crypto Currency businesses and the moratorium has been extended while town committee members work with our town attorney Eric Gustafson to work out regulations. You have surely heard or read about the Mega Reunion being planned by members of our community for the first weekend of August. Check out the many activities they are planning on their website. If you would like to be added to a waiting list for any specific board or committee, to fill when a vacancy occurs, please feel free to contact me.

Serving Town of Massena for a Positive Future!
